There are more than 116,000 Australians experiencing homelessness. Alarmingly, approximately 60,000 of these are under the age of 35, and more than 17,000 children under the age of 12 don’t have a stable place to call home. Homelessness and disadvantage affect large numbers of people right across the Lower Hunter region and on Thursday 29 August 2019 our local community came together in solidarity to do something about it.

On a cold and chilly night, 29 participants slept out night with nothing more than a few sheets of cardboard, soup and bread for a meal to raise vital funds and awareness about homelessness in our very own back yard. Over $21,000 was raised. These funds will assist Lower Hunter Vinnies Conferences crucial provide support to people who are experiencing disadvantage in our local area in the form of food parcels and vouchers, payment of utility bills, medical and education costs, clothing and furniture.

On behalf of the people we assist, thank you to all our participants and sponsors for your involvement in this amazing result. We couldn’t have done it without your wonderful dedication and support.
