There are more than 116,000 Australians experiencing homelessness. Alarmingly, approximately 60,000 of these are under the age of 35, and more than 17,000 children under the age of 12 don’t have a stable place to call home. In Western Sydney, some 45.7% of households are in housing stress, placing them at significant risk of falling into homelessness and on Friday 30 August 2019 our local community came together in solidarity to do something about it.

107 participants slept out on a cold and rainy night with nothing more than a few sheets of cardboard, soup and bread for a meal to raise vital funds for Vinnies homelessness programs across the Western Sydney region. Over $76,000 was raised. These funds will be shared across our programs, including the Vinnies Community Hubs, which provide advocacy and advice for those in need; our Vinnies Conferences, which provide emergency relief and compassion to those doing it tough in our community; and to Social Justice activities in Western Sydney.

On behalf of the people we assist, thank you to all our participants and sponsors for your involvement in this amazing result. We couldn’t have done it without your wonderful dedication and support.
